Day#8! The girls created HIDDEN FIGURES Character boards using paint and other art materials Girls practiced re telling the book through dance in preparation for performance this Friday at 1:00 at the LHS Auditorium.

Day 6 STEAM Camp

DAY 6!!! DANCING!! MAAE visiting Artist, Shanina Carmichael led the young ladies through the ELEMENTS OF DANCE Today! What a fun and exciting day! Full of joy and laughter! PERFORMANCE THIS FRIDAY at LHS auditorium 1-2 pm. PUBLIC INVITED!

STEAM Camp Day 5 MSU Field Trip!!!

Our brilliant future HIDDEN FIGURES took a tour of MSU today!

Dr. Renee Cleary spoke to the girls and gave us a tour of the Geoscience Museum.

Speaker Regina Reed met us at the Dawg House and talked about Computer Science.

Lastly, we toured the Aerospace Dept. where the girls went inside of a wind tunnel..What a great experience learning!

Steam Camp 2017 Day 4

The girls worked in groups to construct and test fly a Drinking Straw Rocket. Prizes were given to the team that launched their rockets the farthest distance.

They completed reading their assigned book "Hidden Figures". The girls worked in groups to complete character analysis of characters, complete BIO POEMS of characters and they began to write song lyrics representing characters in the book using BIO POEM information.

STEAM Camp 2017 Takes Off At LHS

Hidden Figures: Bringing Books to Life STEAM Camp 2017 got underway July 10. The camp is based on the book Hidden Figures, the untold story of the black women who helped win the space race written by Margot Lee Shetterly. Below are pictures of some of day 2 camp activities.

The girls used protractors to draw angles during the math activity titled MOON MATH.

The book discussion was on Chapters 8-15. Katherine Johnson, an African American human computer calculated a series of angles in preparation for the Apollo 11 Voyage at NASA.
